The site is what it is - and we add to it whenever we get the chance or whenever enough people ask for specific information on a topic.
Photography Product Pages
As we said on the home page it is not our intention here at My Photography Tips to be relentlessly flogging all manner of photography products to you...or even AT you!
However, given our experience...and experiences, it would be wrong of us to not at least offer a little guidance in the area of digital cameras, photo editing software, photographic equipment and further study of the subject of learning photography.
It is very easy to get caught up in the latest wizzbangery, lost in the technical jargon and overwhelmed by all the apparently indispensable technology you simply "must have."
This experience tends to leave you in a condition we like to call
"analysis paralysis!"
The three possible outcomes from this condition are:
So sit back, relax and let us do the heavy lifting for you.
We cover three areas of photography products from this page. Yes, there are probably a million (ok, thousands) of things you could max the card out on in this area but let us walk before we begin to gallop headlong into any crushing credit card debt!

You close your eyes and take a stab in the dark at selecting what you think you photographically need - more often than not resulting in a less than disappointing outcome.

You start to "research" further ...and further...and further, the whole time downloading and storing all sorts of reviews, advice, articles, product specification sheets on and on. Finally you have actually recreated an entire section of the internet on your hard drive and fully indexed it with cross references. You then realize that you have missed your true calling in life and decide to get a job as an archivist.

You sit in front of the computer staring at the screen for hours - unable to move. |
Choose a Digital Camera
Yikes! What a minefield this is. There are, quite literally, hundreds and hundreds of choices here and there is simply no way we (or you) are going to be able to test drive every one of them in order to make a sensible decision.
So this is what we did. We combined our own experiences with a number of digital cameras and brands and compiled them with the experiences of a wide range of people we know who are either enthusiasts or professional photographers.
We then cross referenced that information with six of the top digital camera review sites making sure to discount the sometimes professional snobishness they display. In other words we checked the technical performance and ignored the opinions.
Finally we separated the digital cameras into three categories and isolated a few choices in each that we know will serve you well and are not there because of useless bells and whistles.
You can see the results here at: Digital Camera Reviews
Photo Editing Software
Having been enthusiastic photographers for many years now we have run through just about every photo editing software known to mankind!
We have been through the "new kids on the block," the "freebies" the "open sources" - the lot! You name it we've used it and at the end of the day we have always come back to the same small group of software products.
You can see those results here at: Photo Editing Software
Whilst a site like My Photography Tips is good for answering an immediate question on photography or steering you in the right direction in some area of photography it is still no substitute for an organized and orderly approach to learning.
Learn Digital Photography - Courses and Lessons
If you have used the information on this site well and have experienced good results then that's great. That is why the site is here.
If you now feel you would like to take your photography a little further then a more orderly approach to the subject is called for. To this end we recommend a course that is not a full formal (dry) study but will take you up to the next level.
Ok, this was mercifully easier!
So, If you really want to learn how to take great photos of any type and get good at this stuff we highly recommend The 123 of Digital Imaging as resource.
It covers everything you need to know from beginner to pro in an interactive format you can study or refer to at your own pace and at your level of experience.
